Bad moods happen. But, while you probably can’t stop yourself from waking up on the wrong side of the bed once in a while – literally or figuratively – you can prevent a few sour emotions from ruining your whole day… or worse, affecting your relationships with others.
Here are a few things you can do to shake off a bad mood and get back to feeling like yourself again:
Figure Out What’s Really Bothering You – sometimes, we find ourselves being bothered by things that are just below our level of conscious attention. But, by asking yourself “why am I really annoyed right now?” you might be able to get to the root cause of things.
Change up Your Routine or Surroundings – if your bad mood is stopping you from being productive, sitting around and obsessing over it isn’t going to help. Think about having a walk, taking a nap, or otherwise giving yourself a break in your normal routine. An unexpected rest could snap you out of it.
Focus on Something You Can Control – when a bad mood just won’t let go, it can help to distract yourself from negative thoughts for a little while. Focus on one single thing you can control (like making a phone call, or sorting a few files) and you might find that your bad mood fades when you find sense of accomplishment.
